Long before the Hamptons became synonymous with beachfront estates and seasonal soirées, they were a collection of quiet fishing and farming communities first settled by English colonists in the 1600s. Today, each town has its own character, from the art-driven streets of Sag Harbor to the laid-back surf culture of Montauk.
East Hampton, one of the region’s most iconic villages, was once home to famed artists Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner. Their former residence and studio, now the Pollock-Krasner House, is open to visitors and still displays the paint-splattered floors where their groundbreaking work took shape. Nearby in Amagansett, visitors will find a rare double dune ecosystem, a protected natural area beloved by conservationists and nature lovers alike.
At the farthest eastern point sits the Montauk Lighthouse, commissioned by George Washington in 1792. Still operational today, it holds the distinction of being the oldest lighthouse in New York State and remains a favorite stop for those exploring the area.
When to Visit
The Hamptons season officially runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with July and August being the most active months. Each part of the summer offers a slightly different experience:
Peak Season: Late June through Labor Day
Expect high demand, busy restaurants, social events, and fully booked accommodations. Fourth of July and Labor Day are especially popular, so flights and lodging should be booked well in advance.
Best Time for a Quieter Escape: Early June or September
You’ll still enjoy excellent weather, open beaches, and easy access to popular spots, with fewer crowds and more last-minute availability for both accommodations and flights. September in particular offers a more relaxed pace while retaining the summer charm.
Where to Land
There are several airports that serve the Hamptons, each offering different advantages depending on where you're headed and what type of aircraft you’re flying. These are the most commonly used airports for Jets.com clients heading to the East End.
East Hampton Airport (HTO)
This is the most convenient option for East Hampton, Amagansett, Montauk, and Sag Harbor. It offers direct proximity to the most popular summer towns, but keep in mind that HTO operates under strict seasonal noise restrictions and curfews. Slot availability is limited, especially on peak weekends.
Westhampton’s Francis S. Gabreski Airport (FOK)
Located in Westhampton, FOK is an excellent alternative for clients with plans in Southampton, Bridgehampton, Westhampton Beach, or Quogue. It’s less congested than HTO and offers more flexibility for larger aircraft or extended luggage needs.
Helicopter and Seaplane Transfers
